You are invited to join us on October 10th for the Tactile Carnival. Whether you are deaf or blind, deaf-blind or just want to join the fun, save the date! There will be unique tactile games and a huge selection of new prizes for both adults and children, plus refreshments. There’s no other event quite like it!
DeafCAN! will sponsor its fourth Tactile Carnival to promote deaf-blind awareness and provide a fun and interesting way for the community to experience the “touch” of the DB world.
Volunteer opportunities are available. Contact Scott Stoffel at scottmstoffel@yahoo.com for info.
When: Saturday October 10 from 12:00 to 4:00 (10:30-5:00 for those helping with setup and cleanup)
Where: Christ the King Deaf Church (Calvary Lutheran), 730 South New Street, West Chester, PA 19382. Go into back parking lot entrance down stairs or elevator to Fellowship Hall on right. The church is located across the street from West Chester University and near Rt 202 and Rt. 100, Rt 1 and Rt.322 and Rt. 52.
Admission: $10 for 10 game tickets (or $1 for a single ticket) and loan of a prize token bag. Guests and volunteers can enter for free but do not get free game tickets. The ticket fee helps cover the cost of the brand new prizes, and the rest will go toward funding deaf-blind services provided by DeafCAN! Additional donations to DeafCAN! are very appreciated.
While it is not necessary to RSVP in order to attend the event, letting us know you’re coming helps us plan for refreshments. However, deaf-blind guests should respond to Scott via email (scottmstoffel@yahoo.com) to request a volunteer SSP or ride. DB can use paid SSPs if desired but must make the reservations through the usual channels. Please note that if you are not deaf-blind, you need to provide your own transportation.
Volunteer Opportunities: We need volunteers to help run booths, act as SSPs for deaf-blind guests and assist with setup and cleanup. If you’d like to volunteer, please contact Scott via email (scottmstoffel@yahoo.com) and let us know what type of task you prefer.
Pass this flier on to anyone who might be interested in attending.
This sounds very interesting. Unfortunately, there is no way I can get there. Have you been to any of them? What kind of tactile games?
And, how are you considered Deaf-Blind? I've lost lots of hearing, and feel more comfortable with tactile stuff. But, I know I can't make it this year.
Blessings,
Sarahkins
db people only need to have a combined hearing/visual loss of any kind to be considered deaf-blind.
there is a veriety of games this year. everything is tactal. if there are monsters, you can feel them. if there is a passage way you can feel that. every game has so somebody running it, and you can take as long as you need to play it.
